Flood

Tons of cool stuff in chapters 6-9:

• 6:9 says "Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked with God." Can you imagine if this was said of you after you're gone? What if this was on your tombstone? That would be awesome.
• No big change pre floood to post flood in man's heart. In 6:5, God says about man that "every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time." However, right before making the rainbow covenant with Noah (and the rest of man) in chapter 9, He says again of man in 8:21 "...even though every inclination of his heart is evil from childhood." It doesn't sound like the flood really changed man's core problem too much. It seems to me that God is saying I'm not going to address this core problem by wiping everything out again - I'm going to address it another way (see the crucifixion, which actually made it so that every inclination of our heart doesn't have to be evil all the time).
• Drunk - not a good idea. At the end of chapter 9, there's an ugly scene involving Noah, drunkeness, nudity & his sons. In light of what is said about Noah (see first bullet), this is pretty disheartening. What would cause a guy to have such a lapse? Obviously, his judgment was impaired and that is related to his drunkeness. Let me be VERY clear that I'm not a prohibitionist. However, can we agree that there's pretty much nothing good that comes from being drunk. Name 1 time when being drunk led to something being better than it would've been had they not been drunk. Again, I'm NOT against drinking alcohol - I don't believe it's the root of all sorts of evil (that's the love of money that does that). I'm just saying it's a sad way to close the book on Noah - a guy who showed incredible faith for years, but then stumbled to the finish line for no good reason.

What the heck happened to OU last night? I was counting on them thrashing WV. Hopefully, the crazy OU supporters will tire of Stoops and his 4 consecutive BCS losses, fire him, and A&M will get to hire him. Oh wait, we've got a top-notch recruiter and coach...right? right?
